Studio News
~ In 2008 I took a wonderful trip to Italy where I did a lot of painting and photography of the beautiful countryside and fascinating cityscapes. I worked on about a dozen pastels while there, and then completed about 30 more pieces back home in my studio, which you can see in my ‘New Work’ section.
~ 2009 has already been a good year for my art. I just won the Best of Show Award at the Northwest Pastel Society Members Exhibition, for my piece “After the Fall”, shown here. The show was hosted by Blue Horse Gallery in Bellingham this year, and there were over 250 wonderful pastel paintings juried into the show.
~ In June I will have a solo exhibit at Blue Horse Gallery, titled “Light, Form, and Perspective.” This exhibit will feature large pastels that focus up close on the interaction of light and shadow, and the beautiful shapes that are created in foliage. While creating these paintings I was striving for bold color juxtaposed with darker negative spaces that are in between the lovely curves, points, and angles of plant life. As I finished these paintings I found that I really enjoy viewing the close-up perspective in this large format. The glow of light on leaves and berries and the forms that developed in each piece are just fun to look at. ~ Later this year I will be involved in the Plein Air Paint Out again, which is a great event that has artists painting out in the town and parks of Bellingham. The day to see artists out working will be August 22nd, 2009. There will be a show at Blue Horse Gallery from November 6th to 27th to display the work that all participating artists created that day.
~ I will once again be showing work at the Allied Arts Holiday Festival which is open for shopping in downtown Bellingham from the end of November to Christmas Eve 2009. I will post the location and exact dates for this event when they are available.
